Santa Brought Me My Saddle Pad

>> Dec 28, 2010

Santa brought me the Cinnamon colored Weaver saddle pad I've been wanting for this past year!  I am going to have Sunset Halters make me a halter/bridle combo (like the black/pink one my daughter's horse wears you can see here).  They make them by hand and everything is made in the U.S.A.  Speaking from experience, they do great work.  Will definitely be ordering another one from them.

Holidays Fast Approaching

>> Dec 19, 2010

I have decided to take at least a couple weeks off from blogging after Christmas.  We all need vacations from work and since some of my blogging IS for work, it's my vacation time.  I'm a little worried that traffic will fall during that time though so I thought I'd use a web site directory or two in the hopes it'd keep traffic directed to my various blogs.

If not, then I just work a little harder when I get back I guess.

I hope everybody has a WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS and a FANTASTIC NEW YEAR!

PS3 Games

>> Dec 15, 2010

Video game systems are very popular, especially in our house (though, times are limited for playing as they should be and only played on the weekend). We have a couple different console systems for our televisions (plus the kids have handheld games as well). They now want jeux ps3 (ps3 games).  I think we are going to need a third television if Santa drops a PS3 off at our house!

Rex on my Mind

>> Dec 11, 2010

At 5:00 a.m. this morning when I couldn't sleep, I started thinking about the loss of Rex (my daughter's horse that died a couple years ago)  and got all teary over him.  It's amazing how an animal can really touch you to that extent.

I've not been sleeping well the past few nights.  Last night I did get almost six hours (to make up for only getting two hours' sleep the night before I guess).  I have a lot of things on my mind - all the different things the kids need for school in the coming week, redecorating our bathroom and getting a bigger bathroom vanity so my kids stop fighting over the bathroom space every morning, the family dysfunction that gets amped up during the holidays, and money.  Despite all of that, I am looking forward to the holidays.  It'll be a nice break with my kids out of school.

No Back Strain for JeeNee

>> Dec 7, 2010

I'm a couple pounds closer to not weighing my horse down!  Not that my spotted draft couldn't take an extra 25 pounds on her back but I don't want her to have to carry extra weight.  I've heard there are lots of ways to lose weight - exercise, diet, supplements like herbal phentermine. I've changed my diet (because of my gallstones) and my thyroid doctor increased my thyroid medication so I'm not sure which one is responsible for the weight loss - probably a little bit of both.  I'm thrilled over it though.

Halter Bridle to Match Saddle Pad

>> Dec 2, 2010

What color bridle will match the Weaver Cinnamon saddle pad I want?

I talked to the owner of Sunset Halters about it because it seems like it'd be hard to match.  She was thinking along the same lines as me - tan/black.  There is both tan and black on the saddle in addition to all the cinnamon.  I will send Sunset Halters a picture of my saddle when I get it so perhaps something matching can be done to the nose piece (she makes them herself according to your horse's measurements and they're awesome).  If you haven't checked out Sunset Halters, you really need to check out their Halter Bridles.  I LOVE them.  I have one that my daughter confiscated to use as her own.  It works out great and makes it super easy for her to bridle her horse.  No fighting the horse's head and it is so easy to slip the bit into the mouth and latch it.  Since she confiscated that one, I get to buy another one.

Now to finish losing weight so I don't look like a lard up on my new saddle pad (maybe I should be looking at phentermine for some weight help).  I really want a nice picture with my horse.  My horse is half Clydesdale and I want to look small up on top of her, not like a big load.

Eczema! Eczema! Eczema!

>> Nov 30, 2010

Between my thyroid levels and cold, dry air, my eczema is coming back with a vengeance despite the humidifier blowing moisture.  I hate the patches on my arms, hips, breasts, and lower back (pretty much anywhere where clothing rubs, I get eczema). As part of my eczema treatment, I am going to raise my T3 dose because whenever my T3 levels get low, my eczema gets bad.  My eczema is as good of an indicator as the T3 blood tests!

While I dread the winter and being at the stable shivering the entire time with dry, flaky skin and chapped lips, my horse LOVES the cold.  Being part draft horse, I guess she would.

Mirror Shows Age

I am 39 years old.  I don't feel older despite the birthday last month indicating otherwise.  I do notice wrinkles at the top of my nose (frown lines...oh boy) and around my lips.  I have a supply of cosmetics like olay regenerist in my bathroom now. Thanks to my gallbladder, I am watching my diet more closely to stay away from high fat foods (or only take a couple bites of those foods anyway).  Maybe I'll hit 40 years old next year thinner and healthier.  I hope so anyway.  My husband is 45 and he is in better health than I am!

Christmas List: Saddle and Diamonds

>> Nov 25, 2010

I think my husband is going to get me that Weaver saddle in Cinnamon I've wanted for Christmas.  Yeah!  I absolutely love the color.  Now I need to find a bridle that will match it.  I will contact Sunset Halters and see if she makes anything that will match.  She makes great halter bridles!  Since that is sort of a horse/me kind of gift, I think I should put diamond stud earrings on my xmas list too.

Weaver Saddle Pad in Cinnamon

Holidays Fast Approaching

>> Nov 19, 2010

Can you believe how close the holidays are already?  This year has just flown by!  My kids keep me pretty busy so I guess I shouldn't be surprised but it seems like we just paid out a ton of money in Christmas gifts not to long ago and now we have to do it again!

I'm running out of gift ideas for my in-laws.  I'm clueless there.  I know what my husband wants so he's easy - a guitar, but my father-in-law...  What do you get for the 80-year-old man who can buy whatever he wants?  We'll come up with something for my husband's dad.

What are great gift ideas?  Electronics and power tools always make good gift ideas!  You can always find good cigar deals for the cigar lover in the family!

My kids are pretty easy at the holidays.  We always get lists by Thanksgiving for Santa.

Pics on Horse without Belly Fat

How do you get good pictures of yourself on the back of your horse that will hide any belly fat?  I hate, hate, hate pictures of me on my horse because of that but I want pictures of me on my horse!  I'm losing weight but after four kids and struggling with thyroid disease, I'm not sure I'll ever get a flat belly again!  I need to look up how to burn belly fat!

Maybe by spring, I'll have lost what I want to lose in weight and won't need to worry about it.  I can hope anyway.

Taking Care of Moms

>> Nov 18, 2010

Why is it I never buy myself new clothes when my kids get them for every season?  I have one shirt for the winter that is nice enough to wear outside the house.  We are limited locally here to just a few retailers who don't have much that impresses me so I am looking for some great women's clothing catalogs. Plus, I'm starting to lose weight again so the idea of getting new (smaller) clothes sounds like fun!!

It's important for mothers especially, who get pulled in so many directions, to take care of themselves and feel good about themselves.  Now that I'm getting smaller, I want a new wardrobe that makes me feel good and look awesome.  Woo hoo!  Shopping is in my future!

Lose Weight, Gain Weight, Lose Weight

>> Nov 9, 2010

I've been struggling to lose weight.  I had lost 18 of the 37 pounds I had wanted to lose and then 9 of them came back.  Since changing my diet because of my gallbladder disease, I think the scale is going to come down again.  I don't want to get ahead of myself, but it's been teetering back and forth between a 1-1/2 and 2 pound loss this week so I'm hoping... *fingers crossed* ...that drastically changing my diet is going to make a difference along with the increase in my thyroid meds.  My doctor also raised my T3 dose for my thyroid disease so between the two of them - I'm really hoping to see a difference on that scale!

I have to admit those fat burning and metabolism ads do catch my eye though and have me wondering - does lipofuze work?  Because my metabolism is slow due to my thyroid disease, I am curious to see if there is a weight loss supplement that could increase it - not just for weight loss but just so it is where it is supposed to be anyway.

What a Great Weekend!

Had a date with hubby this past weekend. It's the first time we've gone out together by where we live, without kids, since we moved here almost five years ago.  We went to this town my kids call the "hippy town."  It's this great little town that is very open-minded and tolerant of so many different religions.  I felt like I could breathe there!

It was a great day to walk through all the shops.  I found the Organic India tea I've been looking for, some pretty stones, looked at great sterling silver jewelry, and found this wonderful stone box for only $14.00! I thought that was a great find. Then we went to dinner (full dinner for hubby, salad for me to watch the gallstones).  We had a good time and my daughter was happy to get paid to babysit - her first time!

Then my daughter had a riding lesson we all went to.

Oops - back is hunched.  This was a great jump.
Instead of just trotting over the rails, her mare unexpectedly really jumped it.

Good Ride!

Stable Lighting

>> Nov 4, 2010

I've been thinking about our stable set-up for when we move to our own farm in two years.  What is safe stable lighting for a barn full of horses - in terms of barn fires or the horses breaking fixtures. What's the standard for lighting for horse barns?   How high should they be?  What are the best fixtures to use?  I have no clue.

Not Moving Horses

We aren't moving! I am relieved honestly. All the "not knowing" where we would live, where the horses would be boarded, what school, what job, etc., was really starting to cause a bit of anxiety.  I was getting irritable and breaking out like a teenager looking for acnetox reviews!

I didn't want to leave our current barn where the horses aren't just income or a stall in the barn filled up.  The barn manager truly loves the horses and interacts with them.  She just doesn't dump their hay/grain and go.  She is also good with kids (it is more of a "kid barn" actually) and she is trying to get set up to be a disability riding barn as well (she is already set up as a rescue).

SO happy our horses get to stay where they're at!

Why do they have to grow up?

>> Nov 3, 2010

It is cute to see my son growing up.  He is in junior high now.  Before, he didn't care about his clothes or hair.  Now he wants skinny jeans and his hair HAS to flip or else it just isn't right.  He even has to style it up with his outerwear with his Jordan winter coat!  I found these nice cargo pants by the blac label clothing I think he'd like but he's too short and skinny yet. However, they'd look really nice on the husband!

All my kids are growing up so fast!  I remember when my son was a baby with this big, round head.  Now he has a girlfriend, is texting, and worrying about how he looks.  It's just happening too fast.

Recent Horse Pictures from October 25 2010

>> Oct 27, 2010

I thought I'd share a few pictures from our time at the barn the other night.  My teenage daughter had such a good time riding!  It took her mind of advanced math and science classes (she is taking a grade level above her grade in those two classes), boys, acne cream for her almost non-existent pimples she keeps pointing out, and our possible relocation soon.

Then there is my girl whose main purpose in life is to eat, eat, eat:

It was a good time.  The fact that we might relocate and have to move them has me wondering if we are making the right choice.  It's a great barn for our horses and for the kids - very kid-friendly.  The horses aren't just taken care of; they're loved too and we might not find that at another barn.

Thyroid Disease & Hair Loss

I've been lucky with the hair loss I experience due to my thyroid disease because I have SUCH thick hair that the hair I'm losing isn't noticeable to the regular person.  I worried when I was first diagnosed that I'd end up with bald spots and needing hair loss products but I have always had too much hair so a little more loss than usual everyday isn't bothering me yet. Thankfully.

I have even asked for the hair stylist to thin my hair out but she refused.  I have enough hair for two people!

I am thinking about buying a self-tanner lotion for the winter.  I am so pale and on Friday, I am getting my hair done (going dark) and I'm worried with my very pale skin, I'm going to look a bit scary.  I've also thought about making a few trips to the tanning salon but don't know what the best tanning lotions for tanning beds are. With what will be almost black hair and my pale skin, I'll bring in Halloween looking quite scary!  Definitely going to need a little bit of color.

Personalized Christmas Gifts

Who does Personalized Christmas stockings for their pets? We do for our dogs but haven't for our horses because they don't actually live with us (they're boarded). I use Personal Creations for all of our personalized items and gifts.  Last year, I bought all kinds of stuff - a great personalized throw for my mother-in-law, photo plates and mugs, etc. I am going to do the same this year as well.  The personalized gifts make the best impact with family members - they're keepsakes!

Marital Woes

>> Oct 22, 2010

It's been a bit stressful around here lately.  The husband and I have not been getting along well the last few weeks.  It's always the same thing - fighting over his kids/ex.  We don't argue often - usually a couple times a year but when we do...boom!  This time it was his decision (made without my input) that would've cost us an extra couple hundred bucks and made it impossible to make our house payment this month.  Needless to say, I was not a happy wife over his decision.

As of last night, he backed off on it.  Not sure how long it'll take to get over the fact that he made a big decision that affected our family without me when we agreed before we were married never to do that.

Oh the joys of blending families.

Done with griping for now.  I need to run to the stable to drop off some stuff for our horses, take my kids Halloween costume shopping and later do some work and research on colon cleanses and colon cleansing reviews. Maybe I should buy hubby a colon cleanse for his birthday!  At the very least, he deserves a lump of coal in his Christmas stocking this year!

Guilt from Kids

Guilt is a funny thing, especially when your kids heap it on you.

Moving Both Horses

>> Oct 14, 2010

We are still job hunting to make a move back to our home state.  We will be taking both of our horses with us, thankfully.  I talked to our trainer about the horse she gave to my daughter and she's agreeable that the horse goes with us and if down the road, we can't keep her that we let her know first.  That made my daughter very happy.

I wish we'd just find the job so I can get to the million things "to do" in my mind to get us moved.  I still need to get an insurance quote because I believe our auto insurance will double when we move based on where we are moving to. I really hope not but I'm thinking it will.

Social Security Disability

Last year, I briefly considered becoming an insurance agent for life insurance.  I did the study plan to take the test but all the talk about group insurance, disability insurance, Medicare part D plan, and all the other Medicare parts, was really confusing!  I didn't end up taking the test.

I'd rather go to somebody like Allsup and let them handle my own insurance needs rather than me helping others with theirs.  You don't have to pay them for the evaluation either.

My husband might be looking at surgery and if he has to go on disability for awhile, we'll have to contact Allsup for help.

Inexpensive Photo Christmas Cards

Can you believe how fast 2010 is going by?  There's just a little more than two months shopping time for Christmas!

Most years, we do Photo Christmas Cards for our Christmas cards and this year, I definitely want to continue the tradition.  I think they're more personal plus how can you throw away an actual photo like you can a regular Christmas card?  I know I can't!

This year, I found Pear Tree Greetings.  They use 100% recycled, 100 lb matte card stock so it's a really nice, substantial greeting card.  For less than what you spend in a retail store, their cards are $1.25 or less.  You'll find most of them are $0.84.  $0.84 per card is a great price!  That certainly helps the budget during Christmas time.

With this economy, there are times that I wonder how to save money, especially at Christmas when expenses can really take a big bite out of a stretched budget.  Christmas cards from Pear Tree Greetings, at $0.84 each, is a definite money-saver and don't break the budget.  The grandparents would love to receive one of these photo Christmas card of their grandkids.

Check out the quality of their cards in this picture I took:

My favorite are the black and white photo cards.  I think they'll look great, especially if I can get my Clydesdale paint horse to hold a couple kids on her back for our Christmas family picture!  I'll put another child on our other paint horse.

Finally Sat on My Girl

Last week, I spent time with my mare, JeeNee, doing groundwork.  After we were done, our trainer told me to climb on and she led me around on my almost broke to ride horse.  It was really cool.  She seems huge when you're on her back, much bigger than when I ride my daughter's horse.  This is actually only the second time I've been on my girl.  Can't wait until I can ride her all the time!

Mother Son Puberty Talk

My teenage daughter is asking me if I've had "the talk" with my 11-year-old son yet.  My son would run screaming from me if I tried!  I keep books around that are age-appropriate for any of the kids who don't want to ask me straight up, however, I do think dad needs to sit down and have a chat with him.  It's about time to bring it up again.  I mean, I can talk about chest acne or facial hair but when it comes to all that other stuff, I think dad is a much better person for the job. I'm sure my son would appreciate that as well.  Of course, I'd answer any questions he has but he won't ask them (of me anyway).  Like I said, he'd run screaming.

Low Dose Naltrexone & Other Treatments

I'm hearing good things about low dose naltrexone (LDN) for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.  People who have started using it feel good improvement over their symptoms.  I think I might ask my doctor about it!  Can't hurt to ask his opinion about it anyway.

I also want to ask him to tell me some human growth hormone facts. I read a few of Suzanne Somers' books and she talked about hgh and how she uses it. I don't know enough about it though and he's a pretty open-minded doctor. I thought I'd ask him. Who better to ask than your doctor?

It'd be nice to feel good again. Especially if we end up moving and I have full care of our horses instead of boarding them. Lugging horse manure around and hay bales wouldn't be much fun when you feel bad. Is it much fun anyway?

Auto Insurance Rates When We Move

We are getting closer to having to make a final decision to relocate back to our home state.  I need to call our auto insurance company and get a new quote on auto insurance for us for the area where we want to live. I know it will be higher than we pay now because we're in the boonies now where car theft, etc., just isn't a big problem so insurance rates are lower.

We should know Friday night or sometime during the weekend if a move in the very near future is going to happen!

I'll need to have our horses transported too if we move.  My "to do"list keeps growing.  I need to find out if we should have some type of insurance on the horses for the transport or if the transport people's insurance covers anything that may happen.

Lactose Intolerance, Milk Allergies

I know this isn't "horse" related but if your kids can't or won't drink cow's milk, what kind of milk were you successful at giving them?  I've tried soy - ewwww!  Nope, they didn't like it.  I've tried almond milk - one liked it, the rest didn't.  I tried lactose free milk - nope, they said it smells funny.  They don't like rice milk. The only milk I didn't try was breast milk, for the obvious reasons. I'm a few years beyond the need to breastfeed my kids. Been there, done that - two years for my youngest child and never regretted it.  She's now five years old and she has never, in all of her five years, had an ear infection.

I feel like my kids should have some kind of milk.  It's like programmed into mom by pediatricians for kids to switch to cow's milk after breast milk.  Realistically, as long as kids are getting calcium and vitamin D from other sources, it should be just fine to forgo the cow's milk, right?

Seriously, how many living things drink the milk from another species?  I think humans are the only ones who do that.  I have kids complaining of stomach aches, asthma, and allergies to show for it.

Too Old to Learn to Ride

>> Sep 19, 2010

I am turning 39 next month and I have the forehead wrinkles to prove it! Sometimes I wonder if I am getting too old to learn to ride a horse very well. Right now, I can ride but nowhere near great. After all, I certainly won't bounce as well when I fall off (note I didn't say "if" because I know it will happen).  Plus, after years of being "mom", my normal overly careful personality has turned downright neurotic.  What if something bad happens during a fall?  I have a bazillion kids to take care of.

I still want to ride though.

They make sleeves for your credit cards, cell phones, etc. to block that from happening now.  I had no idea!  Wish I would've had this a year ago.  I need a rfid blocking wallet.

A friend of mine in another state just had his credit card number stolen. It seems ridiculously easy for people to do this!  We definitely need tools to fight back from these scammers.

Second Riding Lesson for Mom

I had my second riding lesson on Friday.  Fun, fun, fun!!  I'm also nowhere near as sore as I was after my first lesson last week so that is good, good, good.  We did walk/trot, practiced turning, and getting Tequila used to neck reining for the first time.  My daughter is the english rider; I'm the western rider.

I forgot to get my horses' wormer though before my lesson.  It's not like I have far to go to get it - only right across the street from my house!  The last time I went, the barcode scanner wasn't working there and it was a wait.  It's a feed place in a small town - not the most advanced technology (and some of their merchandise is dusty).  I think I'll run to Tractor Supply (TSC) and get it there instead!

First Ride in Two Years

>> Sep 10, 2010

I had my first ride in two years this morning.  I haven't rode since Rex died two years ago this past August.  About three weeks ago, I sat on my daughter's horse to see how I would feel.  Felt fine.  It took three weeks to get a lesson scheduled because school was starting then kids started getting sick with the "back to school germ-fest" that happens every year.

So, how did it feel to be riding again after two years?

FANTASTIC!!

Instead of scheduling another lesson for a week away, I scheduled one for Tuesday.  I was going to schedule for Monday but I think I'm going to need some recovery time for my sore muscles and bones after this morning's ride.  I actually trotted a lot of the lesson! Woo hoo!

Job Search

We are still looking at the option of relocating, though nothing has popped yet.  The resumes are out there but I think employers are going to be more apt to hire locally rather than outside the state, especially with this economy.  I've put in the search criteria with the different job search engines and I check it almost every day, plus get them emailed to me.

Is there a better way to search?  If the type of employer was just one category, like airport jobs, it'd be easier to search but my husband is in automotive, however his skills can also be in aerospace or medical prosthetic manufacturing. I hope I'm not missing anything with criteria to search for.

Might Be Moving Our Horses

>> Aug 31, 2010

We are checking into moving back to our home state. We've started job hunting for my husband, and are looking for local jobs in the area we want to move. I talked to a realtor today about finding a home to rent with an option to buy, large enough for six kids, five dogs, and two horses. She didn't sound too positive about finding what we need.

I'm not sure if we'd be taking two horses with us or one horse (which means we'd have to get a second horse after moving which I'd rather not do).  I'd want to take both horses but Tequila was given to my daughter by our trainer with the understanding we'd give her back if didn't want her anymore.  Obviously, we still want her but I think that gift was made without ever thinking we'd move her 200 miles away.

So much to think about.

Gruene Steam Cleaners

>> Aug 19, 2010

I just tried out for the first time a Gruene steam cleaner (also works as a steam mop).  I've wanted to try steam cleaners since first seeing the Gruene because with my asthma, finding a way to clean without chemicals was important to me.  With children and pets, it's important to kee their breathing environment healthy as well.  Plus, I can help the environment and my lungs at the same time!

I used it in my kitchen sink (to get the "eww" factor cleaned from my sink from four kids tossing food in there all day long), in the bathroom (again, that "eww" factor with mold and mildew), and on my couch.  My next plan is to take it into the basement!

It cleaned off mold and mildew from the bathroom fixtures, very quickly, without the use of any chemicals whatsoever (my asthma thanks Gruene).  I didn't have to rub myself sore to get everything clean either (my arms thank Gruene too).  Even my husband noticed!

I took a short video to show everybody a little bit of what I did with it.

This weekend, I am taking it to the basement to use on the cement floor where our dogs have made themselves too much at home with themselves to rid my house of this pet smell.  I like that I can do this without the need to cover the smells with chemicals!  Using steam is environmentally-friendly, healthier than breathing in toxic chemicals, and so much easier than scrub, scrub, scrubbing!

Back to School & Plans for Mom

>> Aug 18, 2010

My kids go back to school in five days.  My youngest starts school!  That is going to be one very difficult day.  How do you get through that first day of school for your last child without crying?  I so don't want to be a blubbering momma.

I have plans for myself when school starts.  I am gonig to increase my work-at-home jobs.  I am looking into learning how to make candles and soaps.  I am going to set a housecleaning schedule (woo hoo fun, lol).  I am going to shop smarter, without kids whining, with online coupons now that I will have time to look for them. I am going to start taking riding lessons again!

I won't just sit around twiddling my thumbs and watching soap operas.  In fact, I have no plans at all to watch any soap operas!

Tequila saved daughter from kissing the dirt

>> Aug 14, 2010

My daughter was cantering today on Tequila (it's the 3rd time she's cantered on her, 3rd time Tequila has ever cantered with a rider), and my daughter came out of the saddle, falling forward, on her way to falling off.  Tequila stopped and kept her on her back instead of letting her kiss the dirt.  What a good horse!

Daughter's First Solo Ride

>> Aug 10, 2010

My daughter's first solo ride without a trainer at the farm on the horse she helped break to ride.  She had fun!

I need to go to a wholesaler to find a really good point and shoot camera. The one I used to take this picture is my daughter's. While it is the newest one we have in the house, it's still just a basic camera. I need a better zoom to keep the pixels. Not a bad picture though.

Trotting on Tequila

>> Jul 30, 2010

I got on a horse last week for the first time in two years.  I haven't been on a horse since Rex died two years ago this August.  It was just for a few minutes but I really wanted to get back on.

My daughter cantered with her horse yesterday and last week (first time).  Her horse was mainly a broodmare up until last year when our trainer gave her to my daughter (Rex was her horse and it broke her heart when he died).  My daughter broke her to ride with our trainer.  What a great experience for my daughter!  It's been walk and trot up until last week.  Plus, they're going over low poles too!

School starts in a few weeks so she is going to have to get a lot of riding in over the next three weeks before school starts.  Can you believe summer is going to start winding down and Christmas is around the corner?  Not me!  I have a feeling my kids are going to ask for a playstation 3 but they have no idea yet that this Christmas is going to be a low budget Christmas. We just can't keep spending so much money every December.

Converting Life Insurance

>> Jul 15, 2010

Does anybody know the conversion procedure for converting term life insurance into a whole life insurance policy?  We have a whole life insurance policy and a term life insurance policy.  I'm wondering if we should be thinking about converting the term life insurance over?  We've had it for about 14 years now I think.

With six kids, I'm not sure what is best for them if something were to happen to their dad and me.

Baby Jogger City Select Stroller

I was at the park this evening for my girls' cheerleading practice and a mom walked by with a Baby jogger city select stroller.  A friend of mine had made the comment that she wished she'd had one of those when her twins were smaller.  I didn't know what kind of stroller she was talking about so I looked it up (with four kids, you'd think I would've known).

A Baby Jogger City Select stroller can be reconfigured so you can add things to it.  Have one child and it works for one, add a bassinet when you have a newborn, add a second seat when the baby is ready to sit up.  How cool is that?

Horse Vitamins

>> Jul 11, 2010

What kind of vitamins do you add to your horse's daily feeding?  Our horses graze on pasture, get hay and basic grain.  Is there anything else I should be adding?

Our horses are 6-8 years old, healthy, sound, no shoes, sweet and don't have any health problems.  I am just wondering if there is something else we should be doing to ensure they stay healthy and sound?

Saddle Sores Return

My daughter had another riding lesson yesterday and 20 minutes into the lesson, she was hurting.  We think we know what the problem is now.  It's the pants she is riding in.  The pants have a thick seam right across the spot where it is rubbing.  She's worn these pants before but she's gone through a growth spurt so they fit much tighter now (which she likes).  She's going to have to give up the jeans for riding if she doesn't want raw spots on her behind.

I have my own raw spots to deal with right now but it's not due to riding.  I need eczema treatment to treat eczema spots I have until my thyroid medication and dosage gets adjusted appropriately. I get eczema whenever my thyroid goes whacky.

Saddle Sores are Better

>> Jul 8, 2010

Well, it took a week of no riding but the saddle sores on my daughter's booty have healed.  Her lesson is tomorrow so I guess we'll find out for sure then.  It's not supposed to be in the 90's so it'll be easier riding, less sweat...should be fine.  If not, she'll be soaking in the tub and complaining of the sting from the water by tomorrow afternoon.  If she has something to complain about, she definitely will. At least with this, she had good reason:)

She's getting major boy crazy.  I blame it on all the ab-flashing from the Twilight series.  When she sees a shirtless boy with muscles, her jaw drops.  She doesn't even look at the face.  He could be major cute, major not cute, in major need of pronexin for acne, or just the average joe. All she's looking at are the abs.

Feathers on Clydesdale/Paint Cross

My six-year-old mare has light feathering due to her Clydesdale momma.  I was really hoping that it would grow in thick and longer than it has and every year, it gets a little thicker, but I don't think she'll ever have the feathering her momma, Holly Berry, has.  She's crossed with Dominant Jeans (paint horse out of Oregon) so I guess the cross between the two resulted in shorter feathering.  Perhaps if I rub some hair growth shampoo into her legs? Just kidding!

She's pretty just the way she is.  Light feathering and a sweet disposition is just fine with me.  She'll follow me around the pasture like a dog.  I just love her!

13 Year Old Nose Piercing?

My 13-year-old daughter asked me if she could get something on her face pierced.  I have no idea where that question came from.  It's the first time she's ever mentioned an interest in any facial piercings.  I told her no to the eyebrow, no to the lip, no to the tongue and "we'll talk about a nose piercing" in a few years so that's what she is begging me to get.  I showed her YouTube videos of nose piercings, thinking it would change her mind, and it didn't work.  It didn't scare her out of wanting it.

I really didn't expect a question like this, but I don't know why.  It just caught me off-guard I guess.  I was expecting questions about the best acne medicine, boys, riding her horse, and the abs on the Twilight guys. I wasn't expecting this.

If I wasn't such a big wimp, I would have a nose piercing.  I actually think a little stud is neat.  I just don't think, at 13 years old, she should be scarring up her nose until she's a little older to make that decision.

Saddle Sores

>> Jul 6, 2010

After my daughter spent a couple hours up on her horse, she ended up with more than just a sore backside.  She actually had two sore spots that hurt her to sit, to bathe, etc.  Is that from saddle fit or the clothes she wore?  We had to reschedule her riding lesson today to heal her booty so it doesn't become an ongoing problem for her.

So, instead of watching her riding lesson right now as I type this, I'm messing around the internet and looking at paint swatches.  The kitchen is almost finished - cabinets are done, Kohler kitchen sinks were looked at and one installed, and the walls were painted. Hubby messed up the caulking though so he has to pull it up, repaint underneath, and recaulk around the top of the counter.  It's time to pick out paint colors for the bathroom now!

Cowboy Boot Shopping

>> Jun 30, 2010

I found my next pair of cowboy boots!  Actually, I found two pair.  The affordable ones will be the ones I end up with and the expensive boots will be the ones I dream about.  I have a picture somewhere I'll look for later and post of the expensive pair.

My daughter was given a pair of snakeskin boots, which she wore riding today.  They look really expensive and I cringe when she wears them to the barn but that's what they were given to her for from her aunts.  If they don't mind horse manure and dirt on a pair of expensive boots, I guess I shouldn't.

I'll decide which ones to hint about by the time my birthday rolls around.

Happy Birthday to My Son

>> Jun 25, 2010

The weekend is here. It my son's birthday so we are celebrating it this weekend with dinner out at the restaurant of his choice (he picked Olive Garden), the movie of his choice (Karate Kid I think), and a party at home. He's going to love his cake.  I am having a photo cake made and the picture on it is of him with his dog.  We'll probably have a fire in the fire pit too. The kids love that.

We have a ring for our fire pit but what I'd really like to look at are outdoor fireplaces.  It'd have to be woodburning over gas because our pit is in the middle of our big back yard and I wouldn't want to run gas lines out there but wood is fine with me.

It's going to be a busy weekend.  Hope y'all enjoy yours!

Prenatal Vitamins with DHA

I've been researching prenatal vitamins for a pregnant friend of mine.  She's having a problem taking the vitamins her doctor told her to take.  They make her really nauseous.  I'm confused about vitafol ob dha.  I don't know that Vitafol OB have DHA in them, or maybe they make them now with DHA?  Back when I was pregnant, they weren't adding DHA into everything from vitamins to formula.  I understand it's important now for baby's development.

Even though I nursed for two years, we still used formula in between nursing because I never made enough milk to provide solely for her.  Her first couple weeks were not happy ones as we did everything we could to get more milk to come in.  It never happened.  I think that had to do with my thyroid disease more than anything because when I nursed my son seven years earlier, before thyroid disease, he never went without breastmilk.  That boy turns 11 today.  Time really flies fast.

Practicing Two-Point for Jumping

>> Jun 17, 2010

My daughter's stirrups had to be lengthened at yesterday's lesson for the third time in just a few months' time.  She's shooting up like crazy!  It was fun watching her practice her two-point in preparation for jumping.  I can't believe how fast she's growing.  Before I know it, she'll be taking driver's training, sat prep studying, and wanting to date like her older sister, my stepdaughter!

My stepdaughter is retaking her SAT's so I hope she does more SAT prep this time around.  She did average the first time but she wants to do above-average.  She intends to go to vet school, I believe small animal vet, so she's going to need the scores to get in.  She's going to need to put more time and effort into her SAT preparation and not get distracted like she did the first time.  My own horse-loving daughter is planning to go to school to be a large animal vet.  We're going to have several doctors in the family!

The Busy Summer Starts

>> Jun 12, 2010

Summer vacation officially started here a few days ago.  I have the riding lessons scheduled for the rest of the summer for my oldest daughter and I'm trying to figure out how to pay for lessons for my second youngest daughter so she can learn to ride too.  She just turned nine and is definitely ready.

My other goals this summer are to get the house organized (piles of laundry piled on dressers and paperwork piles all over the place just isn't going to cut it anymore...so wishing for bigger closets to hold it all).  Also going to work on getting hubby to paint the rest of the downstairs.

For fun, we are planning a vacation in July to see family - beach, boating, and fun.  We will take the kids to the Y many times over the summer to swim too, like last summer.

On the business end of things, I need to prepare to add more hours to my at-home work schedule when the kids go back to school and also look for a lawyer to handle a legal issue we will have soon.  I've had bad lawyers before and really need to do my research to make sure that doesn't happen again.  How do most people look for an attorney?  Maybe google Texas Maritime lawyer if it's a Maritime lawyer they need?  I'll get it figured out.

I want to make sure this summer has the least amount of stress possible, even with everything we'll have going on all summer.  Having all the kids home can get frustrating.  I don't want to feel like this all summer long:

Skin Issues on Horse

>> Jun 5, 2010

What are those quarter-sized, bumpy spots that some horses get?  I saw a horse once who had several of these spots that were a bit bumpy.  Unlike people and the need for acne treatments, I wondered if they were hives or some similar skin condition (like a human's eczema).

My horse has never had them.  I remember asking once a few years ago what they were to an owner of a horse who had them but I can't for the life of me remember what I was told.  Memory goes with age...or with a bad thyroid.

Riding Horse When Pregnant

Do you ride horses when you are pregnant?

I've not done it before but I have known people who do.  Personally, I wouldn't risk a fall so I could never do it.

If I were to get pregnant again (and it may not even be possible if we did want another child...which we aren't trying for), I think I'd just be content with spending time with my horse, taking my prenatal vitamins, and waiting until after giving birth to get up on a horse again.  It'd be awful to fall or be thrown from a horse and lose a baby.  I don't think I'd be able to forgive myself.

Rain, Rain Go Away

Summer storms have been going through here the past 24 hours.  I think my daughter's riding lesson tomorrow morning is going to end up cancelled.  I'd imagine the outdoor arena is just going to be too wet.

I have a lot of medical stuff I need to gather for my doctor appointment next week anyway (thyroid, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease info. and eczema - sure wish I knew the cure for eczema).  Now that it is warmer, the eczema is better, but the thyroid needs attention and I don't think my PID is healing the way it should be.  Lots to do but because I was so sick for several weeks, the horses and lessons didn't get the time they deserved; the horses are needing attention and riding so the rain needs to stop so we can spend a few hours at the barn tomorrow.

Teenage Angst Aimed at Mom

>> Jun 2, 2010

My 13-year-old acts like a surly teenager.  When she turned 13, I expected some teenage angst, the need for acne help like Acneticin, and sleeping in later. What I got was a moody girl who gets annoyed easily and shows too much attitude. Most of that attitude is directed at me.  It irritates me because she would never, ever treat her father like that or the parents of her friends.  I get all the fun teenage angst!

Why am I the lucky one?  How do I deal with that for the next five years or will it get better?

Important to get your medical records

After I was discharged from my hospital stay due to PID, I went back to ask for copies of all my labs that were done.  It was a good thing records made me a copy of my entire file because the CT scan I'd had in the emergency room to see if I had appendicitis showed two other problems that neither the ER doctor or my doctor on my floor told me about.

The CT scan showed gallstones and diverticulosis and suggested the need for further testing.  I would never have known had I not gone back and asked for my records.  I see some health problems and pain in my future, as well as a change in eating habits.  Perhaps it will help me lose the rest of my weight naturally as I've been considering weight loss help like Lipofuze.

Whenever you have tests done - blood, scans, etc., ask for a copy of those records.  It's amazing that neither doctor I saw during my three days at the hospital mentioned the gallstones or diverticulosis that the CT scan showed!

My Experience with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

>> Jun 1, 2010

I was hospitalized due to a really bad case of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (due to bacterial vaginosis...NOT an STD!) after an ER visit for pain. I was really sick. They gave me morphine in the ER for pain, then dilaudid once admitted, then Percocet as the pain went down.  (One little note, if you have PID, make sure you get a pain reliever BEFORE any pelvic exams - big ouch!!).

Unfortunately, the antibiotics (Gentamicin and Clindamycin) they had me on had such bad side effects (dizziness, nausea, ear pain and hallucinations) that I was happy to get off them after 2-1/2 days when I got sent home. I saw faces flying at me with evil grins and then the statue outside my hospital window actually turned and looked at me!  At that point, I rang for the nurse to get me off the medications!

I was on IV fluids for dehydration in addition to antibiotics.  I was so bloated I looked like I was in desperate need of a diet supplement. I even had to take my wedding rings off! Like the hallucinations weren't enough...I had to bloat like a whale too.  Thankfully, the water weight came off within the first week or so.

Was Hospitalized but Home Now

It's been a couple weeks since I've posted.  I thought I had a flu (see my last post) but it turned out to be a really bad infection.  I ended up hospitalized for several days waiting to see if they could control the infection enough to avoid surgery.  I was really sick for awhile.  With four kids, one thing I don't need to worry about though is my children's financial future.  After having kids, my husband and I found some good life insurance rates so my kids are taken care of if something happens to one or the other of us.

I'll get into the details of the illness later.  Suffice to say, I was really sick and today was the first day in over two weeks that I was able to see our horses.  It was nice to be able to drive to the barn and see our girls in the pasture.  I'm not up to working with them but the freedom to just hop in the car and go was nice after the last few weeks of not being able to.

Spring flu? Ugh!

>> May 16, 2010

My 13-year-old worked my JeeNee yesterday at the stable.  It's the first time she's ever done that with my horse, but I'm down with the flu.  JeeNee did really well at first and then she kept getting stuck wherever there was grass she could reach in the outdoor arena.  JeeNee would be a huge, overweight cow if she was allowed to be.  She loves her food!

My weight problem has to do with my thyroid and not what I eat.  If all I needed to do was watch what I eat, I'd be thin again.  I could look up apidexin reviews and get some help with weight loss and be done with it. Unfortunately, no matter what I eat, or don't eat, my thyroid has slowed my metabolism down so much that I'm stuck with the weight for now (until my doctor gets things going again). This week, my thyroid goiter got bigger so that's a bummer.  I'm not sure what that means.

Riding Continues Tomorrow

>> May 14, 2010

The rain has finally stopped so the rescheduled riding lesson for my daughter is tomorrow.  Maybe next week I'll be able to get video of the thoroughbred at the rescue and then my mare in training.

Both our mares look really good.  They didn't pork out over the winter (with my JeeNee, that's always a possibility since all she wants to do is eat) and are looking nicely toned from the training and riding so far.  Do you ever wonder if horses chatter the way people do?  Perhaps they swap weight loss stories over the stall door or fenceline and remark about whose butt got bigger?

My JeeNee would probably say her owner's did. Ha Ha.  I'm not doing too well on the weight loss right now.  I lost 13 and gained back four so far.  How depressing.

Weekend Plans

>> May 13, 2010

My husband starts the remodeling in our house this weekend.  Now that we've pulled the house out of foreclosure, it's ours to do what we want.  We stopped when we thought the bank may own it.  There was no point in fixing it up for them.

I also have some work to do, weeding, chauffeur for a party for teenagers, and research on hgh pills. I read about human growth hormone shots in a book but didn't know anything about hgh pills.

Then the kids go to bed early Saturday night. My husband and I make our own "date night" at home on the weekend when he doesn't have to work.

It'd be nice to have a date night out of the house eventually.  We don't have a sitter though.

Things Kids Say

I forgot to tell you in my previous post about the funny thing my daughter said to me this morning before we left for lunch.  She dressed in a sparkly skirt for lunch and wanted me to wear a skirt too.  I told her that I wasn't going to wear a skirt today so she asked why.  I told her that I wanted to lose a few pounds first.  She said, "Do you mean around here, mommy?"  (as she pointed around her waist).

Yes, kids are just SO honest.

At least she's not telling me how often I need to jump on the fitness equipment and watching the scale when I step on it!  Not to be mean.  To a four-year-old, everything is just honest, lol.  I guess it's a good thing that she doesn't know the big numbers yet or else I'd have another reason to dread the scale.

Mommy Daughter Day Today

My four-year-old daughter and I did a mommy/daughter luncheon today.  First, we went shopping for a Webkinz for her.  She picked a pretty unicorn with ribbons.  Then we walked through town to lunch at a little cafe in town.  We sat outside at a bistro table (they had to pick up the patio cushions from the seats and use mats so we didn't get wet backsides from all the rain we had) but it was the first nice day in several days so we took advantage by having lunch outside.  My daughter had hot chocolate and bagel and I had cranberry iced tea and cranberry scones.  Everything was good.  I am not going to get much chance to do this anymore with my little one.  School is out soon so all four kids will be home 24/7 and then she starts kindergarten in the fall.

I don't know what I'll do with myself when they're all in school.

Thoroughbred Rescue Video Postponed

>> May 12, 2010

It's been non-stop rain so the riding lesson for today, and the photo shoot for a horse at the rescue has been put off again.  It's so wet here that our dehumidifier in the basement is running all the time trying to keep up with all the moisture. I don't want to walk through a half foot of muck at the barn but it'd be nice to get the video and pictures done of the thoroughbred at the rescue to find her a home when it dries.  All I have of her is the video I shot when the rescue got her from the track last year.  Her color has changed completely (she's graying out so beautifully).  She was pretty then as well but with her black mane, socks, and tail with the gray - beautiful!

Excited to Remodel & Horse Pics

>> May 5, 2010

I know.  Totally opposing things for the title right?  I am happy that we can finish fixing up the house now so I go on and on sometimes.  It's embarrassing for people to come over and see paint swatches painted on the walls this last year!

While we're remodeling, I want a new ceiling light in my entry and dining room.  While I am not excited to know that instead of selling our house in three years, we'll have to stay here longer to get more equity out of it now, I am excited about finishing up the remodel if you can't tell:)  Maybe if the house is fixed up, I won't dislike it so badly.

I better get back to Cowgirl stuff though...

There are two pictures I took today of our girls.  JeeNee is my black and white spotted draft who turned six last month.  Tequila is the paint below JeeNee who belongs to my daughter.  They're both good girls.

No More Foreclosure

Now that we are pulling out house out of foreclosure (yeah for us), we can finish the remodeling we had stopped when we thought the bank was going to own our home.  I was looking at these pretty stone sinks for our upstairs bathroom. We need a whole new vanity for that bathroom so I might as well get a new sink too, right?

We can finish the painting now too, and I want french doors in my dining and family room, and our bedroom will finally get done!  Yeah!!

Better do it slowly.  Don't want to spend too much money on remodeling and not have enough for the house payment.  That would not be good.

Keeping Home from Foreclosure

>> Apr 30, 2010

Well, the mortgage company is NOW saying that we qualify for some mortgage changes in order to keep our home.  Why didn't they say that when they wanted thousands of dollars we couldn't afford to refinance for a lower interest rate?  Of course, that is just what HUD has told me.  The mortgage company was supposed to call me and I'm still waiting for that.

In the interim, I was looking for credit counseling for our credit cards.  Apparently, we don't make enough money to afford their debt management program.  Huh?  Isn't that the point?  They gave us some advice on how to reduce our expenses so we can afford their program like get an auto insurance quote for a lower rate, change cell plans (yeah, at a couple hundred per phone line if we cancel, that makes sense...not), spend less on clothes for the kids (6 kids - we already only shop at Wal-Mart for them...it's not like we're mall shopping for them every season), change our television service (considering we have NO television service and haven't for months, not a good suggestion), cancel Internet (um...I work ON the internet from home).  They want us to cash in the stock we have for the company my husband works for.  That will help us for one month (he doesn't have much) so the long-term benefit of keeping it (the value is rising) outweighs the short-term.  Not very realistic advice.  If they knew we had two horses, they'd probably tell us to sell our girls too.

JeeNee's Had the Spring Fever Worked Out of Her

>> Apr 26, 2010

JeeNee had the spring fever worked right out of her with lunging and side reins about two weeks ago.  It took a week to get her back on track after having the winter off.  She fought the end of that vacation!  This week, our trainer will get on her and continue her training.

Sometimes I wonder if I am too old to be learning to ride.  I started with lessons a few years ago but when Rex died almost two years ago, I stopped riding.  JeeNee will be ready for me soon so I better get over my misgivings about being too old and get my butt in the saddle.  Should I be looking at prototype 37-c reviews for a wrinkle cream instead of learning to ride? I don't bounce as well as I used to. I might break something if I go down at my age.

Listen to me - talking like 38 years old is ancient.  For most people, it's not.  However, I feel ancient because all my joints and muscles hurt most of the time.  Getting up out of a chair feels like a chore!  I think it is all thyroid related and the doctors are working on that.  I'd like to feel 38 though and not 68.

Tequila's Riding Progress

Tequila Sunrise and my daughter are doing great.  They moved back into the swing of riding, after having most of the cold winter off, without a hitch.  This horse has always been a sweetheart but up until last summer, she was mainly a broodmare and pet.  Last summer, my then 12-year-old daughter and our trainer broke her to ride fully - with my daughter doing the riding!  She truly is my daughter's horse:)  She does great at a walk and trot.  I believe our trainer is going to have one of her girls get Tequila cantering as well.  My daughter likes to GO and is learning to jump too.

My daughter is now 13 years old and has all the moodiness to show for it too (and beyond developing an attitude, and a need for acne wash), she's growing up!  I'll have to get some video of them riding on YouTube so I can post it here.

Puppy Pet Beds

>> Apr 20, 2010

I am looking for inexpensive pet beds for our five dogs. I need two that will fit into two kennels and then I need a few for around the house, especially for our old husky who is arthritic and the cold floor makes her stiff.  (We had one for her but my husband didn't realize it was washable and threw it out when I wasn't around!)  I want them to be washable, especially for the puppy's kennel because she's not totally potty trained yet.  We're still working on that (and struggling).

Who in their right mind gets five dogs?  I guess we do!  However, I am not sure you could say we are in our right minds.

Camera for the Stable

I need a new camera to take to the stable for horse pictures so I am looking for some good daily deals. I have a SLR digital camera already but I wanted one that doesn't cost as much as that one did to take to the stable to use regularly. I'm not crazy about taking my expensive camera down to the barn where kids and dust reign. I usually use my daughter's camera during her lessons but that's been getting goofy lately and if that is going on the fritz, I am going to need a replacement.

I'd feel naked without a camera.  I am always taking pictures (which my stepson really hates but gotta preserve the memories)!

Farrier Went GREAT!

This morning our two horses got their feet done with the farrier (if anybody is looking for a farrier in west central Ohio, let me know...have a good one).  Tequila is always good, never any problems from her.

JeeNee had a bad experience with a farrier before we bought her so it's always been a struggle with her.  Our farrier is really patient with her always.  We spent a lot of time/lessons just getting her used to having her legs touched and lifted for shorter and then longer duration.  The first time we had the farrier out for her a few years ago, she tried to kick him at least 50 times. He remained calm and patient.  With a lot of work, she has slowly gotten better but her back right leg was always an issue regardless.  This morning not one single issue, even with that back leg.  I had apple treats on hand and the trainer fed her them as the farrier worked on her, which she loved.  She acted more like a dog than a horse.  She even picked up her front leg for the farrier before he even asked for it.

I think my baby is a big girl now.  She turns six in a couple weeks and it seems like any past issues have been worked out so far.  In a couple weeks, she'll go back to getting worked with an experienced, confident rider (once said rider gets off grounding, lol).  I may just be riding her regularly by summer!

Spring Riding is Starting

>> Apr 1, 2010

Our vacation has come and gone and it was a great time.  We hope to do it again this summer!

Now that I am losing weight and not afraid to get on the scales anymore, I am looking forward to this summer. I wanted to lose more weight to be lighter on our horses' backs and I've done it. With 13 pounds left to lose, and 19 pounds already lost, I am going to enjoy getting into summer clothes this summer as well.  I usually dread it. I won't feel like I'm pulling a ton of weight up into the saddle either!

My daughter already got herself into the saddle for the first time this season.  They both did really well together.  Now it's my turn.

Seeing Ex Soon...Ugh

>> Mar 24, 2010

We are going to my stepdaughter's band thing this weekend and the ex will be there.  I bought a skinny pair of jeans to wear with a sexy pair of heels for a casual but not casual look with my 19 pound smaller body.    I'm very happy to be able to fit into a skinnier pair of jeans.  I'm hoping I don't fall over in those heels.  Other than cowboy boots, I haven't worn heels in years.

It's too bad there are still 13 pounds left to lose but 19 pounds is a good start, especially when you are going to be in the same building as an ex who can't stand you.  The 13 pounds should melt off like the rest of it did and I won't have to look into phentermine or any other weight loss help so far. Other than vitamins and managing my thyroid, I've not needed anything else (so far).

Mare Didn't Pork Out Over Winter

My mare looks pretty good for not doing much over the winter.  She actually loves winter so she was probably more active than most. When the others are in the run-ins, she's playing in the snow.  I was wondering if she was going to look like an advertisement for the best weight loss supplements ever and be round but she looked good. The "best weight loss supplements" advertisement should've been for her human mom (me) the last four years.  Her legs look SO strong, but I guess they better since she is half Clydesdale.  She gets her feet trimmed up in a week.  She'll be looking good for getting back into working for spring.  She has calmed down a lot as well.  I guess since she's coming up on six years old, it's about that time to.  She's so calm and sweet.

Lighter in the Saddle

I stopped by the stable this evening to see the horses and work on my mare's mane.  It's the first time we've been at the barn at the same time as the barn manager since before Christmas so it was nice to catch up.  We talked about getting lessons going again next week which will be great.  I am going to fit into my pretty black western saddle a lot better this year since I've lost 19 pounds.  My new thryoid medication has been like a fat burner in terms of weight loss for me. It's been great to have a doctor who knows how to treat thyroid disease.  Now my horse will feel a little less of me on her back and that's a good thing.

Healthy, Convenient Meals

>> Mar 23, 2010

Has anybody ever tried Nutrisystem?  I've thought about it for the meals alone, not necessarily the weight loss, but I wonder:  does nutrisystem work? I just love the convenience of having meals ready for myself but am not crazy about the grocery store frozen meals and the health content.  I tend to try more and different meals if I don't have to make them first to see if I like them.  Is that weird?  Maybe that's because I don't cook very well and chances are, I'd mess it up anyway the first time.  If I try something at another person's house or at a restaurant, and like it, I'll make it afterward.  I even eat white chili now and I never would have made that myself first.

Smaller Backside in the Saddle

I have lost 19 pounds so far and wanted to see how that translated as far as fitting into a different size jeans.  I tried on jeans today a size smaller and they fit!  After being unable to lose weight for several years and wondering about the best fat burner available, getting the right thyroid treatment was the ticket for me. I knew my old doctors weren't treating my thyroid disease correctly but getting them to listen was a waste of time until I found the right doctor.

It's nice to think that my backside will be a size smaller in the saddle this year. Perhaps if I lose the remaining 13 on the agenda, it'll drop another size.

Bravina for Public Speaking Anxiety

>> Mar 22, 2010

I can not get up in front of people and talk.  It doesn't even have to be a lot of people.  If there is a person I need to talk to that I do not know very well, I can barely speak.  However, getting up in front of a crowd leaves me feeling ill, my voice quivers something awful so it sounds like I am actually about to cry.  You know the "picture them naked" technique?  It never worked for me.

There wasn't one incident that made me like this.  Not like my fear of water because I almost drowned.  I have always had this fear of speaking in public.

There is a natural supplement called Bravina that helps a person overcome that public speaking anxiety for a particular event.  Many, if not all, of the ingredients in Bravina you will recognize - St. John's Wort, Ashwaganda, Passion Flower, Ginseng, Gingko Leaf and more.

What you do is you take Bravina 1 - 2 hours before you have to speak in public.  Of course, you should check with your doctor, especially if you take anti-depressants.

I am thinking about going back to school and one of the requirements is a speech class.  I've avoided it all this time but perhaps with Bravina, I don't need to anymore.

Record Your Own Door Chime

>> Mar 21, 2010

Today was a lazy day which I took full advantage of.  After the last few days spent in preparation of a dance for my oldest daughter and a sleepover for my son, it was nice to just veg out today.  I read a bit, cooked a bit, and fed my Internet addiction a bit.  A great way to spend Sunday.

While cruising the Internet a bit today and came across a "record your own" door chime. You can record your favorite song, your school's fight song (which wouldn't go over too well if I put the Ohio State Buckeyes fight song on for my Michigan family to hear when they ring my bell).  I might just have to do that!  I love rubbing it in when the Buckeyes beat Michigan so this is just another tool in my arsenal.

Going on a Trip

>> Mar 17, 2010

We are going on vacation soon to see my stepkids.  My stepdaughter has prom this year and just bought her dress.  I wish we'd be in town for her prom, to see how beautiful she looks and how handsome her boyfroom looks in tuxedo shirts but we won't be. We will be there for her band competition though for districts. That will be fun to see.

I left notice at the stable where we'd be in case something comes up with our horses.  Fingers crossed that it's not needed.  Our horses have never colicked or anything like that so it's just a precaution.

Barn Time Tomorrow

>> Mar 12, 2010

Woo hoo!  Got out of the ride to the city tomorrow.  My husband has to work this weekend so I get the barn tomorrow morning instead.  Going to go get my hands dirty on our girls.  I'll bet they are just filthy from all the snow melt and mud.  Too bad there's not a compact Franke sink in the tack room to wash up afterward because my steering wheel is definitely showing the result of dirty horse hands. Time to disinfect the car.

Have you ever thought about all the germs on your hands after loving on a horse?  They roll in the pasture and mud where they've gone to the bathroom.  Yummy eh?  Every once in awhile, a good wipe down of the steering wheel is in order with some wipes - preferably Lysol wipes.

Barn or Music Store?

>> Mar 11, 2010

Oy Vey.  My husband just told me he wants to take a ride into the city Saturday morning to look at guitars.  My idea of Saturday morning was to go to the barn.  Spring weather is here and I want to take advantage of it...not spend a couple hours in a car to go to a music store.  Men!

I can't even concentrate on work with this weather.  I'm supposed to be looking up POS systems and I'm itching to get outside if the rain holds off and then spring clean my house later.  Employers should give their employees a day off when the weather breaks - it's not like they're getting much work done anyway!  I know I'm not.

Spring in Ohio

Spring has finally sprung here in Ohio.  It's into the 60's today, the windows are open, and the sun is shining despite the rain drops that want to make an appearance.  If the rain holds off, the arena may be ready for a riding lesson this weekend.  I'm going to have to contact the barn manager and find out.  I'm ready to ride again and get some new pictures and videos of my daughter riding (might need to update the hard drives soon because I really overload it with media).

Can't wait to see green grass in place of brown soon!  Hopefully spring break will be nice for the kids.

Horse Breeding

>> Mar 7, 2010

Have you been checking out Mare Stare to catch any births?  I've been checking but haven't caught one yet.  I did read of one colt that they lost the other day.  I'm glad I missed that one.  How sad.

I have thought about what great and beautiful painted babies my spotted draft mare would have.  She is such a sweet girl, but with the problems in the horse industry the last few years and the risk to my mare, I'm not willing to take the chance of losing her.  There are plenty of horses out there who need great homes so I really don't want to add to that by breeding my girl.

Home Insurance for Land Contract Property

>> Mar 3, 2010

We are thinking about looking for a house and acreage on a land contract deal.  I was wondering what kind of home insurance you need for that? Is it "our" home so we need regular homeowner's insurance or would it be covered under a renter's insurance...no clue!

My dream home is up for sale right now but at almost $200K, it is out of our price range.  I sure wish we could get that house!  Ten acres with barns, recreation room, family room, living room, dining room AND breakfast room!  Six kids, five dogs, and two horses could actually fit that property.  I want that house!

Missed the Gypsy Vanner Birth

>> Feb 23, 2010

I have been trying to catch the birth of a foal on Mare Stare the last few days and I missed the two Gypsy Vanner foals I wanted to see.  When I checked the other day, the mares weren't doing anything and then I received a "low alert" email this morning telling me things were changing but not "high alert" status.  So I went to the web site to see and both foals were already on the ground.

It's amazing how well nature works, isn't it?  While we have half the country disagreeing with the other half on what our health insurance industry should be and what government involvement should be acceptable while the animal world just does what nature intended them to do.  You don't see horses worried about whether they are covered by Blue Cross NC, deductibles, and how long they can stay in the hospital.  (Which reminds me, I have to contact our insurance company because I haven't been able to log on the last couple of weeks.  I have really random thoughts.)  Nature is amazing when you stop to appreciate it.

I just love the Gypsy Vanner.  Here is a picture of a Gypsy:

They are just magickal aren't they?

Weight Loss Reviews

>> Feb 20, 2010

Have you ever watched those weight loss commercials and wondered about the results they claim?  Me too!  I would actually like to talk to real people and see if their claims are actually true.  What I would REALLY like to know is what side effects they had and how bad were they?  Sometimes the side effects just seem hideous!

I guess I can look up xenadrine rfa x reviews and see what people online are saying about specific weight loss products.  I'd definitely rather hear it from a real person rather than a celebrity spokesperson.  You know the celebrities are either getting paid very well to do it or not so well (and they are using the publicity in the hopes of bringing back a career in the tank) so I don't trust celebrity endorsements.

I Want a Do Over

My eight-year-old has been sick all day today with stomach pains and she has dark circles under her eyes. She just does not look well at all and spent the day laying around and alternating between moaning and having little tears slip out of her eyes.  I hate seeing her sick.

My head has been pounding non-stop all day long. My daughter's school project that is due Tuesday is nowhere near being done and the schedule over the next few days is crazy busy so that is another headache I am just now hearing about.  Ack!  It's been one of those days.

It started out pretty good.  We found a $50 dress for $9 today for my daughter's school dance.  Then the rest of the day took a dive. I'll be glad to go to bed in a bit and wake up tomorrow to start a new day.

Overcoming Thyroid Disorders

I just finished reading Overcoming Thyroid Disorders by Dr. David Brownstein.  I've been trying to get a good handle on my thyroid disease (and the added weight as a result) and this was a book I had been wanting to read for awhile now. It talked about thyroid hormones but it also talked about detoxing, iodine, and testosterone.  I don't think I am in need of any testosterone cream but a little natural progestone cream wouldn't hurt!

I own several of Dr. Brownstein's books and I may have to purchase this one too.  He seems like a very knowledgeable doctor.

JeeNee Turning 6 This Year

>> Feb 19, 2010

My mare turns six this April.  This summer will be our four year anniversary of how long we've had her.  She's had it pretty easy so far being part draft horse. We didn't see any reason to inflict damage or joint pain on her just so we could ride earlier. She had ground training and then light saddle training with our trainer at age four and five and that was it.  She's been a pasture pet pretty much.  We wanted her growth plates to have time to do what they needed to first.

Her dam is Holly Berry (Clydesdale):

Her sire (Dominant Jeans):

Here's JeeNee as a little one with mom:

She's a sweet girl (usually).  She's allowed to get moody once in awhile too.
