Trotting on Tequila

>> Jul 30, 2010

I got on a horse last week for the first time in two years.  I haven't been on a horse since Rex died two years ago this August.  It was just for a few minutes but I really wanted to get back on.

My daughter cantered with her horse yesterday and last week (first time).  Her horse was mainly a broodmare up until last year when our trainer gave her to my daughter (Rex was her horse and it broke her heart when he died).  My daughter broke her to ride with our trainer.  What a great experience for my daughter!  It's been walk and trot up until last week.  Plus, they're going over low poles too!

School starts in a few weeks so she is going to have to get a lot of riding in over the next three weeks before school starts.  Can you believe summer is going to start winding down and Christmas is around the corner?  Not me!  I have a feeling my kids are going to ask for a playstation 3 but they have no idea yet that this Christmas is going to be a low budget Christmas. We just can't keep spending so much money every December.

Converting Life Insurance

>> Jul 15, 2010

Does anybody know the conversion procedure for converting term life insurance into a whole life insurance policy?  We have a whole life insurance policy and a term life insurance policy.  I'm wondering if we should be thinking about converting the term life insurance over?  We've had it for about 14 years now I think.

With six kids, I'm not sure what is best for them if something were to happen to their dad and me.

Baby Jogger City Select Stroller

I was at the park this evening for my girls' cheerleading practice and a mom walked by with a Baby jogger city select stroller.  A friend of mine had made the comment that she wished she'd had one of those when her twins were smaller.  I didn't know what kind of stroller she was talking about so I looked it up (with four kids, you'd think I would've known).

A Baby Jogger City Select stroller can be reconfigured so you can add things to it.  Have one child and it works for one, add a bassinet when you have a newborn, add a second seat when the baby is ready to sit up.  How cool is that?

Horse Vitamins

>> Jul 11, 2010

What kind of vitamins do you add to your horse's daily feeding?  Our horses graze on pasture, get hay and basic grain.  Is there anything else I should be adding?

Our horses are 6-8 years old, healthy, sound, no shoes, sweet and don't have any health problems.  I am just wondering if there is something else we should be doing to ensure they stay healthy and sound?

Saddle Sores Return

My daughter had another riding lesson yesterday and 20 minutes into the lesson, she was hurting.  We think we know what the problem is now.  It's the pants she is riding in.  The pants have a thick seam right across the spot where it is rubbing.  She's worn these pants before but she's gone through a growth spurt so they fit much tighter now (which she likes).  She's going to have to give up the jeans for riding if she doesn't want raw spots on her behind.

I have my own raw spots to deal with right now but it's not due to riding.  I need eczema treatment to treat eczema spots I have until my thyroid medication and dosage gets adjusted appropriately. I get eczema whenever my thyroid goes whacky.

Saddle Sores are Better

>> Jul 8, 2010

Well, it took a week of no riding but the saddle sores on my daughter's booty have healed.  Her lesson is tomorrow so I guess we'll find out for sure then.  It's not supposed to be in the 90's so it'll be easier riding, less sweat...should be fine.  If not, she'll be soaking in the tub and complaining of the sting from the water by tomorrow afternoon.  If she has something to complain about, she definitely will. At least with this, she had good reason:)

She's getting major boy crazy.  I blame it on all the ab-flashing from the Twilight series.  When she sees a shirtless boy with muscles, her jaw drops.  She doesn't even look at the face.  He could be major cute, major not cute, in major need of pronexin for acne, or just the average joe. All she's looking at are the abs.

Feathers on Clydesdale/Paint Cross

My six-year-old mare has light feathering due to her Clydesdale momma.  I was really hoping that it would grow in thick and longer than it has and every year, it gets a little thicker, but I don't think she'll ever have the feathering her momma, Holly Berry, has.  She's crossed with Dominant Jeans (paint horse out of Oregon) so I guess the cross between the two resulted in shorter feathering.  Perhaps if I rub some hair growth shampoo into her legs? Just kidding!

She's pretty just the way she is.  Light feathering and a sweet disposition is just fine with me.  She'll follow me around the pasture like a dog.  I just love her!

13 Year Old Nose Piercing?

My 13-year-old daughter asked me if she could get something on her face pierced.  I have no idea where that question came from.  It's the first time she's ever mentioned an interest in any facial piercings.  I told her no to the eyebrow, no to the lip, no to the tongue and "we'll talk about a nose piercing" in a few years so that's what she is begging me to get.  I showed her YouTube videos of nose piercings, thinking it would change her mind, and it didn't work.  It didn't scare her out of wanting it.

I really didn't expect a question like this, but I don't know why.  It just caught me off-guard I guess.  I was expecting questions about the best acne medicine, boys, riding her horse, and the abs on the Twilight guys. I wasn't expecting this.

If I wasn't such a big wimp, I would have a nose piercing.  I actually think a little stud is neat.  I just don't think, at 13 years old, she should be scarring up her nose until she's a little older to make that decision.

Saddle Sores

>> Jul 6, 2010

After my daughter spent a couple hours up on her horse, she ended up with more than just a sore backside.  She actually had two sore spots that hurt her to sit, to bathe, etc.  Is that from saddle fit or the clothes she wore?  We had to reschedule her riding lesson today to heal her booty so it doesn't become an ongoing problem for her.

So, instead of watching her riding lesson right now as I type this, I'm messing around the internet and looking at paint swatches.  The kitchen is almost finished - cabinets are done, Kohler kitchen sinks were looked at and one installed, and the walls were painted. Hubby messed up the caulking though so he has to pull it up, repaint underneath, and recaulk around the top of the counter.  It's time to pick out paint colors for the bathroom now!
