Well, I think it is official. My teenage daughter lost interest in her horse. She hasn't wanted to ride in quite some time. She is interested in cheerleading and boys (wish she paid more attention to her grades and less on the boys). She doesn't want to give the horse up but she doesn't want to spend the time either.
So, we fixed it. My two youngest daughters will start riding lessons this spring on their sister's horse:)
I just finished editing a video of my daughter and her friends acting out a scene from Of Mice and Men. I have to say - I don't like this book at all. How morbid. She used her horse, Tequila, in the video so we shot half of it at the barn. Tequila didn't want to move in the shot - that was a blooper for the video. Cold, messy, but fun!
I have a few more people on my Christmas list yet and then I am done. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas... I did a majority of my Christmas shopping online for my kids and my husband. With all the free shipping deals for things for my kids, it was just easier.
Not much else going on right now. Just the way I like it.
Woo hoo! Waking up in the morning to cool air is such a relief after this super hot summer! Much cooler for the horses and my spotted draft LOVES the cooler weather (that is the Clydesdale in her). She gets quite frisky! Then at night, we can light up the fire in the pit and relax (I really want to look at outdoor fireplaces but I'll have to make do with my pit until we find exactly what I want).

Had a date with hubby this past weekend. It's the first time we've gone out together by where we live, without kids, since we moved here almost five years ago. We went to this town my kids call the "hippy town." It's this great little town that is very open-minded and tolerant of so many different religions. I felt like I could breathe there!
It was a great day to walk through all the shops. I found the Organic India tea I've been looking for, some pretty stones, looked at great sterling silver jewelry, and found this wonderful stone box for only $14.00! I thought that was a great find. Then we went to dinner (full dinner for hubby, salad for me to watch the gallstones). We had a good time and my daughter was happy to get paid to babysit - her first time!
Then my daughter had a riding lesson we all went to.

I thought I'd share a few pictures from our time at the barn the other night. My teenage daughter had such a good time riding! It took her mind of advanced math and science classes (she is taking a grade level above her grade in those two classes), boys, acne cream for her almost non-existent pimples she keeps pointing out, and our possible relocation soon.
My daughter rode her horse yesterday for the first time in about two months (she sprained her ankle). She had such a good time! I think Tequila was happy to have her on her back too.
Read more...I had my first ride in two years this morning. I haven't rode since Rex died two years ago this past August. About three weeks ago, I sat on my daughter's horse to see how I would feel. Felt fine. It took three weeks to get a lesson scheduled because school was starting then kids started getting sick with the "back to school germ-fest" that happens every year.
So, how did it feel to be riding again after two years?
My daughter was cantering today on Tequila (it's the 3rd time she's cantered on her, 3rd time Tequila has ever cantered with a rider), and my daughter came out of the saddle, falling forward, on her way to falling off. Tequila stopped and kept her on her back instead of letting her kiss the dirt. What a good horse!

I got on a horse last week for the first time in two years. I haven't been on a horse since Rex died two years ago this August. It was just for a few minutes but I really wanted to get back on.
My daughter cantered with her horse yesterday and last week (first time). Her horse was mainly a broodmare up until last year when our trainer gave her to my daughter (Rex was her horse and it broke her heart when he died). My daughter broke her to ride with our trainer. What a great experience for my daughter! It's been walk and trot up until last week. Plus, they're going over low poles too!
School starts in a few weeks so she is going to have to get a lot of riding in over the next three weeks before school starts. Can you believe summer is going to start winding down and Christmas is around the corner? Not me! I have a feeling my kids are going to ask for a playstation 3 but they have no idea yet that this Christmas is going to be a low budget Christmas. We just can't keep spending so much money every December.
I know. Totally opposing things for the title right? I am happy that we can finish fixing up the house now so I go on and on sometimes. It's embarrassing for people to come over and see paint swatches painted on the walls this last year!
While we're remodeling, I want a new ceiling light in my entry and dining room. While I am not excited to know that instead of selling our house in three years, we'll have to stay here longer to get more equity out of it now, I am excited about finishing up the remodel if you can't tell:) Maybe if the house is fixed up, I won't dislike it so badly.
I better get back to Cowgirl stuff though...
There are two pictures I took today of our girls. JeeNee is my black and white spotted draft who turned six last month. Tequila is the paint below JeeNee who belongs to my daughter. They're both good girls.
This morning our two horses got their feet done with the farrier (if anybody is looking for a farrier in west central Ohio, let me know...have a good one). Tequila is always good, never any problems from her.
JeeNee had a bad experience with a farrier before we bought her so it's always been a struggle with her. Our farrier is really patient with her always. We spent a lot of time/lessons just getting her used to having her legs touched and lifted for shorter and then longer duration. The first time we had the farrier out for her a few years ago, she tried to kick him at least 50 times. He remained calm and patient. With a lot of work, she has slowly gotten better but her back right leg was always an issue regardless. This morning not one single issue, even with that back leg. I had apple treats on hand and the trainer fed her them as the farrier worked on her, which she loved. She acted more like a dog than a horse. She even picked up her front leg for the farrier before he even asked for it.
I think my baby is a big girl now. She turns six in a couple weeks and it seems like any past issues have been worked out so far. In a couple weeks, she'll go back to getting worked with an experienced, confident rider (once said rider gets off grounding, lol). I may just be riding her regularly by summer!
Our vacation has come and gone and it was a great time. We hope to do it again this summer!
Now that I am losing weight and not afraid to get on the scales anymore, I am looking forward to this summer. I wanted to lose more weight to be lighter on our horses' backs and I've done it. With 13 pounds left to lose, and 19 pounds already lost, I am going to enjoy getting into summer clothes this summer as well. I usually dread it. I won't feel like I'm pulling a ton of weight up into the saddle either!
My daughter already got herself into the saddle for the first time this season. They both did really well together. Now it's my turn.

Tequila and my daughter are doing great together! She's riding Tequila every week and they're coming along nicely together.
Here is the video I told you about in an earlier post. This is my daughter's new horse, Tequila. She LOVES to have her butt scratched. Her head gets moving all over the place...it's so funny. Here it is:
Last year, on August 21, 2008, my daughter's heart broke when her horse, Rex, died unexpectedly. It was devastating to her to lose him. She'd been through some rough times in the previous year and she came out of it with her strong bond with Rex. She was happy again with Rex. Rex had such a personality that I wondered if there'd be another horse with so much character.
It's been nine months since Rex passed and she's been riding Tequila this year, our trainer's mare. They've been learning together (Tequila hasn't had formal training as she'd been a broodmare previously but she has such an easy going personality that it didn't seem to matter). The extent of Tequila's riding experience was when the girls at the stable would jump on her bareback with just a lead rope and ride her around in a parking lot at a show (she's great at shows for halter). Tequila wasn't going to have anymore babies so it was time for her to become a riding horse.
Bree has been the one riding her...first on a lunge line with the trainer and then, quicker than I expected, on her own. I didn't realize it until last week but Bree has been the only one to ride her for training. It's a great accomplishment for my daughter. As expected, Tequila was easily trained for riding and my daughter can now say she helped "break" a horse for riding ("break" isn't the right word...Tequila wants to do what you want her to do). They bonded beautifully.
Tequila is a unique horse in her own, funny way. I'm working on the video to post here to show you what I mean (she's hilarious). You'll have to check out the video when I get it posted.
Anyway, the point of all of this (sorry, I got to rambling), is that Tequila's owner (our trainer) gave Tequila to Bree after her lesson this past Wednesday. Tequila Sunrise is now Bree's horse. She was finally ready for another horse and now she has one to love again. They work well together and love each other. Here they are:
In June, they will go to their first horse show together for halter.
